CMSC/MRA KARTING SLALOM 2024

The Ceylon Motor Sports Club is one of the oldest motor sports clubs in South East Asia and was inaugurated on 4th September 1934 at the Grand Hotel, Nuwara Eliya. Young European tea planters, mainly British, who used to spend their Sundays driving their cars along the estate roads in friendly competition just for the thrill of driving fast decided to regulate this sport, which resulted in the birth of the “Ceylon Motor Sports Club”. The Club has immensely contributed to the development of motor sports in numerous ways from its inception. The CMSC can proudly acclaim, that it is the only motor sports club in Sri Lanka, which is affiliated to the world governing body of motor sports, the FIA (Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile).

CMSC as a club, has come a long way, since it officially started conducting events specially the Mahagastotte Hill Climb which has been run since 1934 to date. The founder members of the club and subsequent Presidents & Committee’s to date, ensured that the traditional Mahagastotte Hill Climb became an annual event in the Sri Lanka Motor Sporting calendar, and still is one of the main events.

Apart from the hill climb the CMSC gradually organized Rallies, Gravel & Tarmac circuit racing, Gymkhana’s, Karting meets, Autocross, Drag racing & now into E Sports as well. The Lotus Rally too has a long history and has been run for over 50 years.

With the FIA affiliation, the CMSC created many opportunities to motor sports enthusiast as well as Competitors and Marshalls for many forms of competition, while training to enhance their knowledge, exposure and gain international experience.

The Ceylon Motor Sports club is committed to developing grass route level participation and has created many new projects to encourage, and promote young kids to take to motor sports in Sri Lanka. Furthermore the CMSC along with the assistance of the FIA has taken the initiative to promote Women in Motor Sports and E Sport to name a few.

In 1958 the CMSC became an affiliate member of the Federation Internationale de L’Automobile (FIA) the governing body for world motor sport and the federation of the world’s leading motoring organisations.
