Drag Racing

These innovations are used successfully at the club’s meets, run colorfully with large crowds in attendance, and with notable sponsor participation. Several local drag racing stars have even made the transition to circuit and hill-climb racing, justifying the effort in taking this exciting sport off the streets and onto the track.

Drag racing in Sri Lanka started out a few decades ago as a popular grassroots form of motorsport, with the first enthusiasts using their daily-driven road cars on deserted stretches of public roads. Over the last decade the Ceylon Motorsports Club has worked hard at bringing street drag culture into a more organized and safely run track discipline, while keeping the competitive ethos of drag racing alive via a variety of accessible classes ranging from ‘street stock’ to ‘open’ classes for purpose-built drag cars.

Having started with stand-alone events, the club now organizes 3-round annual championships, boasting over 150 entries at each event. CMSC also worked on introducing new technology and ensuring the highest-possible safety standards were met. Locally developed Christmas tree start lights and jump start detection systems were some of the innovations designed and implemented by our technical team.
